| Magnesium Fire Starting Tool This fire tool consists of a block of solid magnesium and a full length of Ferrocerium Rod set into one edge. Because magnesium is soft, the block can be scraped to form a small pile of shavings. When you striking the edge of the sparking insert it ignite the shavings, the magnesium flares up at a temperature of 5400°F. A short piece of hacksaw blade works best for shaving the magnesium and for throwing huge amounts of sparks. |
